Under the title: "SCALA NATURAE – NATURE, HUMAN AND ANIMAL," the artists Diana Achtzig and Rocco Barone will be showcased in a special double exhibition at Galerie Bottega Barone, Lützowstr. 38, 10785 Berlin from 09/03 to 09/30/2022.

"It is truly amazing what a single ray of sunshine can do to the human soul." Fyodor Dostoevsky's fellow writer Julius Waldemar Grosse also writes: "In the simplicity and silence of nature, man finds the life force."

Scientists have been dealing with the question of how nature affects our psyche for decades. The result was and always is the same: Nature is good for us. Blood pressure and pulse decrease, and the heart rhythm responds more flexibly to stress. Just a few minutes in nature can be enough to improve our concentration and lift our mood. Nature experiences make us more social, tolerant, and increase frustration tolerance. And yet we often trample it underfoot.

“Everything has its origin in nature, the flowers in the meadows, the trees in the forests, the great diversity of the animal kingdom... And amidst all this beauty is man, as the 'pinnacle' of evolution – at least that’s how Greek philosophers like Plato and Aristotle saw it,” explains Rocco Barone. In the images of the internationally known artist, humans and nature play a significant role. “For me, it should be a give and take: We humans must never forget that nature can exist without humans and not the other way around,” explains the Maestro and quotes his compatriot Galileo Galilei: “Nature is relentless and unchangeable, and it is indifferent to whether the hidden reasons and ways of its actions are understandable to humans or not.”

A close connection to nature is also shown by Diana Achtzig in her images. “Humans belong to nature, yet as the only living beings, they are also able to change it,” explains the Berlin artist and wonders: “But what if humans change so much that they merge with nature?” In addition to the natural original form, that is, human nakedness, Achtzig also deals with the fusion between animal and human.

You are cordially invited to the opening on September 3rd from 6 - 10 PM!
Both artists will be present.

From 2003, Achtzig's freelance lectureships began, e.g., at UdK Berlin, HTW Berlin. This led to the founding of her own Achtzig Kunstakademie Berlin in 2015.

The artist Rocco Barone

The trained painter, graphic artist, sculptor, and set designer Rocco Barone was born on January 7, 1949, in Alezio in the southern Italian region of Apulia. He first attended the state art institute in Lecce with a focus on painting, where he completed his education after four years with the award of the title Maestro d’Arte. He then studied for four years at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, specializing in set design. In the 1980s, Barone made his breakthrough in Germany through various exhibitions and art actions. With his manifesto and theory on deformation, he not only made headlines in the press, but also caught the attention of various art critics such as Professor Peter Lörincz and art historian Elisabeth Vollmer. The art historian and former museum director in Giessen, Dr. Friedhelm Häring, writes, for example: "The skillful painterly transcription and the shifts between extroverted spaces and the introspection of emotional states, the transition from inside to outside over lines, edges, or locks of hair is masterful and illustrates life as a living process between everyday life and visions in flowing time. Rocco Barone's paintings are held intermediate spaces in this process, stepping stones in the broad ford through life, to come to reflection and safely reach the goal."
