What is art? - That is answered by the Degewo Hochhaus Galerie

What is art? - The Degewo Hochhaus Galerie might answer this with its new double exhibition by Karin Klaar and Almut Lucchesi from 09.06.2021 to 18.08.2021 in the Degewo Hochhaus Galerie in the foyer at Raoul-Wallenberg-Straße 40/42 in 12679 Berlin.

What is art? The word art comes from the Latin ars and is combined with the Greek téchne. What exactly is art? Is it the result of a creative process that is not driven by a specific function? Or could it be an intuitive activity by people that would be triggered by sudden spontaneity, imagination, and perception?

Famous examples include a creative process in public speaking, improvisation in music, and a creative painting process as an art form. The creative process relieves tension and quickly reduces stress. This is also the opinion of the animal painter Almut Lucchesi.

What is art in animal painting by Almut Lucchesi?

The animal illustrator Almut Lucchesi is 54 years old and works as a nurse and social educator. Her art is pure passion, as it provides a relaxing balance to her often emotionally demanding professional life.

When painting, the artist can experiment with colors and shapes. By guiding the brush and pencil with full concentration, the animal portrait painter finds peace and can express and create something that lasts.

Her passion for nature and the animals of Africa can be found here in the double exhibition and in her animal portraits. Even as a child, Almut Lucchesi spent many days and hours during vacations with her grandmother at the zoo. Her passion for animals has remained to this day. Her 6-year stay with her entire family in Namibia opened her eyes to the beauty of African wildlife in their own environment.

She herself says: “The many vacations on the Baltic Sea have taught me to see and love the cranes.”

As a long-time member of the Biesdorf "Montagsmaler," the animal portrait painter Lucchesi was able to engage with various techniques and develop her own style. Painting in the group and exchanging ideas gave her new impulses and repeatedly motivated her to continue. It was during this time, when her children were small, that she had this time for herself, in which she could quietly pursue her passion.

This artist can easily answer the question "What is art?" It is the special African wildlife as a source of inspiration, which is skillfully reflected in the painting of Almut Lucchesi as an art form. Capturing precious African moments and moments of wild animals and then making them appear lively and vibrant on simple paper is also a form of art.

What is art in watercolor painting by Karin Klaar?

The watercolor artist Karin Klaar was born in 1942 in Brück. Her artistic training began in 1957 as a commercial advertiser in Potsdam. In 1965, she pursued further training as a display designer in Schwedt. This was followed by a move to Berlin in 1999.

Karin Klaar further engaged with painting in the Biesdorf painting group "Montagsmaler" in 2006.

After painting with various techniques, she discovered watercolor painting for herself. Currently, Karin Klaar is enthusiastic about portrait painting. This watercolor artist captures astonishing landscapes, flowers, nature, and portraits with her watercolor paints. She spends the summer in a small garden house by the lake in absolute nature. There, she studies the individual motifs very carefully before starting a new watercolor.

Her art lies precisely in the composition of the very different explicit proportions and painterly color moods that leave nothing to be desired for the viewer.
