The origins of the gallery in the art scene date back to 1990, when Diana Achtzig laid the first foundations in Amsterdam. Twelve international artists found a project and gallery space here with an area of 250 square meters, which established itself as a nucleus for innovative, non-objective, and objective acrylic and oil painting. This era shaped the identity of the later Berlin art gallery and laid the foundation for its future development in art marketing and successful art sales. The gallery program of the art gallery can be found at the following link: https://www.dianaachtzig.de/konzept.html.
The decisive move in 2009 to Berlin-Mitte, followed by another in 2015 to the vibrant district of Prenzlauer Berg, marked a phase of PR transformation. Here, not only was the ideal art space for art buyers created, but the gallery also further shaped its identity and gained recognition among art collectors.
The takeover of the management of the Hochhaus Galerie Degewo from 2020 to 2024 was another turning point. In Raoul-Wallenberg-Str. 40/42, 12679 Berlin, the successful gallerist Diana Achtzig led with the same dedication and professionalism that had characterized her own art gallery. The exhibition overview can be read at the following link: https://www.art-magazine.eu/de/degewo-hochhaus-galerie-eine-ausstellungsuebersicht-im-skywalk-berlins.
The definitive transformation in 2020 under the leadership of Diana Achtzig not only gave the gallery a new name, Kunstgalerie Berlin Achtzig, but also a permanent address: Weißenhöher Str. 14, 12683 Berlin in Biesdorf. This location embodies the maturity and stability of the gallery while simultaneously representing its artistic vision for the future.
The gallery not only changed its premises but also perfected its orientation. Diana Achtzig's long-standing collaboration with collectors, gallerists, art dealers, fairs, museums, journalists, editors, experts, bloggers, podcasters, curators, and artists forms the solid foundation for her current position in the art market. These diverse partnerships have not only increased international recognition but also paved the way for significant exhibitions and collaborations.
The current artists of the gallery, graduates of renowned art universities such as the Universität der Künste Berlin (UDK Berlin) and the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig (HGB Leipzig), proudly represent the New Leipzig School. From the beginning, Diana Achtzig has focused on the international presentation of these artists, the development of effective art marketing strategies, and the successful sale of art in the art market.
The gallery functions not only as a space for art but also as a platform for knowledge transfer. From 2003 to 2017, Diana Achtzig was a freelance lecturer at renowned educational institutions such as the Universität der Künste Berlin (UdK) and the Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft Berlin (HTW Berlin). Her commitment as a lecturer extended over art history, art marketing, drawing, and free painting. Up to her own Achtzig Kunstakademie Berlin at: https://www.akademie-der-kunst.de/de/.
Since 2023, the experienced gallerist Dietrich Willerscheid has taken over art sales in the Kunstgalerie Berlin Achtzig. His expertise and passion contribute to the continuous development of the gallery.
The history of Kunstgalerie Berlin Achtzig is thus not only a narrative of spaces and changes but above all a story of artistic innovation, commitment, and the constant pursuit of excellence in the contemporary art scene. In its development, not only is the history of the gallery itself reflected, but also a cross-section of the dynamic development of contemporary art.
