Who is Diana Achtzig?

Diana Achtzig is a painter and sculptor living in Berlin. She studied at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst (HGB) Leipzig, one of Germany's most traditional art schools. Her professor and role model was the painter and graphic artist Arno Rink (1940–2017). He taught painting at the HGB for decades and trained many artists who are now considered part of the New Leipzig School.

A lot of this training is evident in her paintings: a representational, technically precise painting with a focus on people. Her gallerist Dietrich Willerscheid considers her an important representative of Leipzig painting.

The works: nudes, erotic portraits, and sculptures

The focus of her painting is the human body. Diana Achtzig paints nudes and erotic portraits, mostly in acrylic or oil on canvas, as well as watercolors on paper. An example is the acrylic painting "Girl with White Cat" (80 × 80 cm). Another theme is animals: In her animal paintings, she also deals with war and ecology. As a sculptor, she works with recycled material.

According to her gallerist, her works go to collectors in the USA, France, Spain, and England as well as in China, Japan, and Korea. The American foundation and art collection Schmidtman has also acquired works by her, more on this in the article Diana Achtzig in the American Foundation and Art Collection Schmidtman. She also offers some watercolors online: Buy watercolors by Diana Achtzig online.

Diana Achtzig on television and in the press

Several television stations and newspapers have reported on Diana Achtzig. The contributions can largely be viewed online:

"Not even the male painters from HGB Leipzig have as much PR as Diana Achtzig," says her gallerist Dietrich Willerscheid.

Art as an Investment: What You Can Realistically Expect

Works by graduates of HGB Leipzig are in demand on the art market, and the prices for well-known painters of the New Leipzig School have risen sharply in recent decades. Dietrich Willerscheid also reports growing demand for the works of Diana Achtzig, with art buyers traveling from all over Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and abroad, according to him.

Nevertheless, it remains true: No one can predict whether and how much the value of an individual artwork will increase. Art cannot be sold at a fixed price at any time, and costs are incurred, such as for insurance or auction fees. Those who see art as part of their assets should therefore invest only a small portion in it and choose a piece they enjoy living with.
