Animal pictures as a mirror of personality development
The Berlin painter and sculptor Diana Achtzig incorporates her own personal development into her paintings: In her rabbit, leopard, and lion paintings, she makes transformation visible. She is also a gallery owner: In 1990, she opened her first gallery in Amsterdam, and today she runs the Berlin Produzentengalerie, which also showcased digital exhibitions during the Corona lockdowns. How artists can apply there is detailed in the article Die Produzentengalerie Berlin sucht Künstler.
The Essentials in Brief
- Diana Achtzig paints rabbits, leopards, and lions in a pop-art style using acrylic, black and white, and gold.
- The leopard rabbit represents a person who surpasses themselves under pressure.
- In 2021, she showcased the paintings in shop window exhibitions at the Galerie erstererster in Prenzlauer Berg.
- Annekatrin Pischelt and Birgit Rakette exhibited alongside her.
Pop art in black and white and gold
Personal development is a major topic of our time, and Diana Achtzig, a studied painter from the University of the Arts Berlin, brings it into focus. For this, she developed a pop art painting in acrylic: Her figurative, reduced images on paper are reminiscent of black-and-white photography, accented with gold paint.
An example is the "Leopard Hare in Gold" (acrylic on paper, 49.2 x 42 cm, Berlin 2021). The hare grows a lion and leopard fur, its development becomes visible. The animals stand as allegories for people who develop further under great external pressure, as in the Corona pandemic. She also dedicated the exhibition "Chimeras of Animal and Human in the Time of the Corona Pandemic" in the Degewo Hochhaus Galerie to this theme.
Window exhibitions at the Galerie erstererster
The gallery erstererster on Pappelallee 69 in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg showcased the paintings in two window exhibitions in 2021. From February 22 to 28, 2021, painters Annekatrin Pischelt, Birgit Rakette, and Diana Achtzig exhibited together, followed by a second group exhibition of the three artists from June 16 to 22, 2021. Berliner Woche presented them in detail at that time.
Birgit Rakette and Diana Achtzig were also seen together in Havelberg in the summer of 2021, more on this in the article “Zeitenwandel Malerei” in the Galerie StadtInsel Havelberg.
