A week of painting on the net

Under the title "Digital Presentation of Abstract and Figurative Painting," Achtzig Galerie Berlin showcased a group exhibition online from July 31 to August 6, 2020. In addition to guest artists Düsel and Gerbershagen, Anton Van De Amoste, Ashley Grik, and Diana Achtzig from the gallery's program were featured.

The Most Important Points

  • The digital group exhibition ran from July 31 to August 6, 2020.
  • Düsel and Gerbershagen showcased abstract "soul paintings."
  • Düsel works with acrylic, glitter, and feathers, often using her hands.
  • Gerbershagen paints structures on a black background and depicts relationships between people.

Düsel: Soul Images from Inner Conflicts

"Soul Pictures" is the overarching theme of the painter Düsel. She came to the abstract language of forms through her inner conflicts, which she wanted to give an artistic form. She captures her inner state, relationships between people, and emotions in the picture, thus inviting a change of perspective.

With her confident choice of colors, Düsel brings her feelings very close to the viewer. The focus is on the painting process and the significance of the colors: Her inner impulses guide how she reworks an acrylic painting on canvas until it is finished. She works with acrylic paints, texture pastes, glitter, and feathers, and paints with fingers, hands, brushes, spatulas, and sponges.

Gerbershagen: Relationships between people

When words were no longer enough to communicate, Gerbershagen turned to painting her "soul images." The long painting process is an important part of her daily work. With titles like "Demarcation," "Outbreak," "Cohesion," and "Observation," she depicts situations from her everyday life. It's about relationships between people: protective or threatening, loving or contemptuous.

She applies the base of the painting in black. On this, she builds structures with texture paste as well as with spatula, dabbing, and sponge techniques. She completes the paintings with light acrylic and oil paint. Each painting is a unique piece.
