A group exhibition in autumn 2018
With an opening on Friday, October 19, 2018, at 7 PM, the Achtzig Galerie in Prenzlauer Berg opened the group exhibition "New Architecture and Painting." Until November 21, 2018, it showcased paintings, photography, and sculpture by graduates of the Berlin University of the Arts, who belong to the Berlin School, as well as by artists of the New Leipzig School.
The Most Important Points
- The exhibition ran from October 19 to November 21, 2018, at Achtzig Galerie Berlin.
- On display were oil paintings by Anton Van De Amoste, photographs by Nicola Sudowe, and wooden sculptures by Stefan Egger.
- Additionally, there were portraits, acrylic paintings, watercolors, drawings, and paper works.
- The theme combined painting with modern architecture as a motif.
Painting, photography, and sculpture
A focus was on the oil paintings by Anton Van De Amoste. The painter presents young women, often as figures of mythology, in front of modern or historical architecture, thus combining figure and building in bright colors on canvas.
The paintings were complemented by photographs by Nicola Sudowe and wooden sculptures by Stefan Egger. Overall, the selection ranged from portraits, oil and acrylic paintings on canvas, to watercolors, drawings and works on paper, to photography and sculpture.
Architecture as a motif
Buildings have been a subject of painting for centuries, from the cityscapes of the Renaissance to the urban images of modern times. Modern architecture with clear cubes, glass surfaces, and cantilevered components offers painters geometric shapes, light, and reflections that can be translated into color surfaces.
The motif of the exhibition shows exactly that: a white building with a floating, glazed upper floor, painted in loose pastel tones, in front of it a golden, tree-like form. The strict architecture meets a free, painterly environment.
Further exhibitions of the Achtzig Galerie
This show was followed by the group exhibition "Photography and Painting in Modern Times" starting on November 23, 2018. In spring 2019, the gallery showcased the watercolors by René Du Belle and participated in the Gallery Weekend 2019.
